Dr. Elizabeth Jeglic shares her expertise in helping listeners understand grooming that leads to childhood sexual abuse. She describes the prevlance and harms associated with childhood sexual abuse. Her research has focused extensively on understanding the behaviors that precede the abuse and delineating these into the five stages of the grooming model. She discusses these stages and the behaviors associated with each. Dr. Jeglic also described the three stages of red flags that are useful for clinicians, child abuse prevention specialists, and others who come into contact with children. Dr. Jeglic also describes some of the ways in which grooming occurs and looks different in an online context compared to in person. We wrap up the podcast by discussing prevention techniques that range from observation, training to legislative changes.
